TIES is a Program of

Goal of the Middle School Enviornmental Education Project

Studies have shown that at an early age a significant number of girls have been observed to display a keen interest in the field of science and mathematics. However, as they begin to enter junior high and high school many girls begin to lose their interest in these areas because of societal attitudes that associate science and math with the male gender. Our team's goal is a encourage these girls to keep their interest in science and math because we understand that these areas of study are blind to gender.

Our solution to this problem is to make science fun, interactive and engaging. We hope that by working with students in ways that are attractive towards young girls, that they will keep their interests long after they have become influenced by societal attitudes. Some of these aspects include working with enviornment, having team oriented goals and simply having a good time.
