TIES is a Program of

Project Goals of the Digital Signage Public Alerts System

After the events at Virginia Tech, the school was in need of a system of alerting student already on campus in the case of emergencies. Our goal is to produce a system of signs all around campus, strategically placed in well populated areas linked to the UCSD Police Department via a secure network to allow them to send instructions to the signs for the public to follow.

While the signs will be used in the case of emergencies, we hope to be able to use the signs to also prevent emergencies. Sensors will be placed in the sign that will monitor temperature, humidity, CO2, and other particulate matter that can be used in environmental research too.

Another goal for the team is to make the sign easily upgradeable or expandable. As of right now, a future goal is to add an emergency callbox to each sign, much like the blue talk-a-phone poles installed around campus.
